Buying a domain

Search, buy, and attach a domain to your project without a separate registrar account. Pay by card or bank transfer, then manage DNS from the dashboard.

Last updated September 29, 2026

Buy a domain from the dashboard and attach it to a project in one flow. You don't need a separate registrar account, and you don't need a project to buy one. Head to Domains after signing in. Every plan, including Free, can buy domains.

Searching and pricing

Type a name into the search box. We check the common extensions (.com, .io, .co, .net, .org) and, if your first choice is taken, suggest alternatives. Prices are shown per year. If the renewal price is higher than the first-year price, both are shown so there are no surprises later.

.dev and .app can't be registered through EthioDeploy right now and always show as unavailable.

Checking out

  1. Click Buy on a result. Optionally pick a project to attach it to.
  2. Enter the registrant contact details (name, email, address, and phone). These are required by the registry.
  3. Pay. You can switch the checkout between USD and ETB.
  4. Check your inbox for an email from the registrar asking you to confirm your contact details. This is an ICANN requirement, and you need to click it once to keep the domain active.

Payment options

  • Card (USD).You're sent to a hosted checkout. The domain is set up as a yearly subscription that renews automatically at the price shown at checkout.
  • Bank transfer (ETB). Transfer the amount, then enter the bank and your reference number. We verify it against the bank, usually within seconds. If it takes longer, the page keeps checking and updates on its own. This is a one-off purchase for one year and does not renew automatically.

If a bank transfer is for less than the price, it's rejected. A reference number can only be used once.

Attaching to a project

Attach a domain at checkout, or later from My domains. You need the Admin role on the project.

  • Root domain (yoursite.com): we create the A record for you.
  • Subdomain (app.yoursite.com): we create a CNAME to your project's ethiodeploy.com address. Different subdomains can point at different projects.

No DNS verification is needed for domains you bought here. Traffic starts routing on the project's next deploy; we trigger one automatically. A hostname can only be attached to one project at a time. To move it, reassign it from My domains.

Managing DNS

Open DNS next to a domain in My domains to edit records directly. Supported types are A, AAAA, CNAME, TXT, and MX(with priority). TTL can be 60 to 604800 seconds. Each record shows whether it's live or still propagating.

A CNAME can't share a name with other records, so detach an attached subdomain before adding your own records for it.

Renewal and expiry

  • Card purchases renew every year automatically.
  • Bank-transfer purchases have no in-app renewal yet. The expiry date is shown in My domains, so note it, and contact us before it passes. If you want automatic renewal, buy with a card.

If a payment goes through but the registration fails on our side, it's not retried automatically. Contact us and we'll sort it out.
