EthioDeploy vs Netlify

Netlify is a frontend platform: static sites and frameworks on a global CDN, with serverless functions, forms and now a Postgres database, all billed in credits. EthioDeploy runs your whole app as a long-lived container with a database next to it. If your app is mostly frontend, Netlify is a strong fit. If it's a server, a bot or a worker, that's what EthioDeploy is built for.

Competitor details were checked against Netlify's official pages on 2026-10-23. Plans and prices change, so confirm on their site before you decide.

Which should you pick?

Pick Netlify if

  • Your site is static or Jamstack and benefits from a global CDN, with free deploy previews and branch deploys.
  • You want forms, blobs, a database and AI Gateway on one credit bill.
  • You want a hard cap on the free plan so you can never get a surprise bill, and you're fine with the site pausing at the cap.

Pick EthioDeploy if

  • Your app is a long-running server. Netlify's synchronous functions time out at 60 seconds and background functions at 15 minutes.
  • You run bots, queue consumers or WebSocket servers, which need a process that stays up.
  • You want flat monthly pricing instead of credits, where bandwidth costs 20 credits per GB since April 2026.
  • You want to pay in Birr by bank transfer, as well as by card.
  • You want an AI coding agent that edits and runs your repo in a sandbox, then opens a pull request.

Questions

What happens when Netlify's free credits run out?

The Free plan has 300 credits a month as a hard limit, and you can't buy more on it. When they're used up, every project on the account is paused and shows a 'Site not available' page until you upgrade or the next cycle starts.

Did Netlify raise its prices?

On April 14, 2026 Netlify changed its credit rates: bandwidth went from 10 to 20 credits per GB and compute from 5 to 10 credits per GB-hour, while web requests dropped from 3 to 2 credits per 10k and forms became free. Sites with heavy bandwidth use more credits than before.

Can I run an Express, Django or Laravel server on Netlify?

Not as a long-running server. Netlify runs server code as functions with time limits, so a traditional server has to be adapted to functions. On EthioDeploy it runs as-is in a container. See the deploy guides for Express, Django and Laravel.

Is EthioDeploy a Netlify alternative for static sites?

It can host them: Vite and other static builds are served with an index.html fallback so client-side routes work. But it serves them from one region, without Netlify's global CDN, so for a purely static site with global traffic Netlify is the better fit.

Can I pay without an international card?

On EthioDeploy, yes: pay in Ethiopian Birr by bank transfer, or by card in USD. Netlify's billing docs list cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, with ACH or wire only on Enterprise.
