Hosting prices in Ethiopia in Birr (2026)
THE SHORT ANSWER
In November 2026 the cheapest hosting you can pay for in Birr is ethio telecom's Shared Bronze at ETB 650 a year, for 5 GB and one site. A VPS paid in Birr starts at ETB 6,400 a year from ethio telecom, or about ETB 1,950 to 3,300 a month from local resellers, most of which run the server abroad. For deploying an app from GitHub, EthioDeploy Pro is ETB 1,399 a month paid by telebirr, against roughly ETB 640 to 3,220 a month for DigitalOcean, Railway, Render or Vercel, which need a dollar card.
How much does hosting cost in Ethiopia?
It depends on what you are hosting. Prices fall into three groups, and they aren't interchangeable:
| Type | Good for | Cheapest in Birr |
|---|---|---|
| Shared hosting | WordPress, static sites, PHP, email on your domain | ETB 650/year (ethio telecom) |
| VPS | Anything, if you install and maintain the server yourself | ETB 6,400/year (ethio telecom), or from ETB 1,950/month (Yegara) |
| App platform (PaaS) | Node, Python, Go, PHP apps deployed from GitHub, with databases | Free, then ETB 1,399/month (EthioDeploy Pro) |
Every price below was read on the provider's own site on November 3, 2026. Dollar prices are converted at the National Bank of Ethiopia's indicative mid rate for November 2, 2026: USD 1 = ETB 160.9988. A card payment will cost a little more after your bank's exchange margin.
Shared hosting prices in Birr
| Provider and plan | What you get | Price | Server |
|---|---|---|---|
| ethio telecom Shared Bronze | 5 GB, 50 GB bandwidth, 1 site, 1 MySQL database, 5 mailboxes, SSL, domain free for the first year | ETB 650/year | ethio telecom |
| ethio telecom Shared Silver | 20 GB, 250 GB bandwidth, 3 sites | ETB 2,000/year | ethio telecom |
| Yegara Standard | “Unlimited” NVMe storage and bandwidth, DirectAdmin, a .com included | ETB 3,800/year | Not stated |
| Zergaw Basic | 50 GB | ETB 5,481/year | Ethiopia |
| HahuCloud Standard | 60 GB NVMe, 500 GB bandwidth, 3 sites | 6,500/year (currency not printed; VAT included) | UK |
| Techno Bros Starter | 5 GB, 50 GB bandwidth | ETB 11,500/year, or ETB 960/month | Not stated |
ethio telecom's page lists prices without a period but says the minimum plan is one year, renewed every year, so we read them as yearly. Its larger plans are Gold (50 GB, 5 sites) at ETB 3,800 and Platinum (100 GB, 10 sites) at ETB 5,200. Zergaw's page says a pricing update is in progress, so check before you pay.
Shared hosting runs PHP and MySQL behind a control panel. It is the cheapest way to put a WordPress site or a company page online. It generally can't run a Node.js, Python or Go server that stays running.
VPS prices in Birr
| Provider and plan | CPU / RAM / disk | Price | Per month | Server |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ethio telecom VPS Silver | CPU not stated / 2 GB / 30 GB | ETB 6,400/year | about ETB 533 | ethio telecom |
| ethio telecom VPS Gold | CPU not stated / 4 GB / 50 GB | ETB 10,379/year | about ETB 865 | ethio telecom |
| Yegara VPS Mini | 1 vCPU / 2 GB / 40 GB SSD | ETB 1,950/month | ETB 1,950 | USA |
| HahuCloud 1xCloud | 1 vCPU / 1 GB / 25 GB NVMe | 3,174/month (VAT included) | 3,174 | DigitalOcean (US, Europe, Asia) |
| Zergaw CS01002 | 1 vCPU / 2 GB / 30 GB, 2 Mbps uplink | ETB 3,272/month | ETB 3,272 | Ethiopia |
ethio telecom is the cheapest by a wide margin if a yearly payment suits you. Most local resellers sell servers that sit in the US or Europe. Yegara says so plainly, and HahuCloud says its VPS is “powered by DigitalOcean”. That is fine for most sites, but it means the server is no closer to your users than one you rent abroad yourself. Zergaw says its servers are in Ethiopia; note the 2 Mbps uplink on its smallest plan.
With any VPS you install the operating system updates, the web server, TLS certificates, the database and backups yourself.
App hosting: EthioDeploy vs international platforms
If you are deploying a Node.js, Python, Go or PHP app from GitHub, compare app platforms, not shared hosting. These build and run your code on every push and handle TLS and restarts:
| Platform and plan | What you get | USD | ETB per month | Pay with |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EthioDeploy Free | 1 project, 256 MB, sleeps after 30 min idle, 512 MB managed database | $0 | ETB 0 | Nothing |
| EthioDeploy Pro | Always on, 1 GB per container, custom domains, 5 GB managed database | $10 | ETB 1,399 (ETB 13,990/year) | telebirr in Birr, or a card in USD |
| DigitalOcean Basic Droplet | A VPS: 1 vCPU, 512 MiB, 10 GiB SSD | $4 | about ETB 644 | Card in USD |
| Railway Hobby | $5 of usage included, then billed per GB of RAM and per vCPU | $5 minimum | about ETB 805 and up | Card in USD |
| Render Starter | One always-on web service, 512 MB, 0.5 CPU | $7 | about ETB 1,127 | Card in USD |
| Vercel Pro | Per developer seat, $20 of usage included; Hobby is free but non-commercial only | $20 | about ETB 3,220 | Card in USD |
The dollar platforms are cheap on paper, but each needs a card that can pay in US dollars, which most people in Ethiopia don't have. See how to pay for Vercel, AWS and hosting from Ethiopia for which cards work. Render's price also covers one service: an app plus a database is two bills.
EthioDeploy Pro is usage-based and covers roughly 6 small sites or 2 mid-sized apps, with the database included. You pay the plan price by telebirr transfer, and each payment covers 30 days (or a year on yearly billing) without renewing on its own. CBE transfers are paused for now. Full details are on the pricing page.
How much is a .et domain?
ethio telecom runs the .et registry and sells the domains directly. Prices for one year:
| Domain | Birr | USD |
|---|---|---|
| yourname.et | ETB 1,375 | $120 |
| yourname.com.et, .net.et, .org.et and others | ETB 550 | $100 |
Paying for several years at once is discounted, from 5% for two years up to 10% for five or more. Notice that the Birr price is far below the dollar price at today's exchange rate, so paying in Birr is the better deal. Shared Bronze includes a free domain for the first year.
How do you pay these providers in Birr?
- ethio telecom: order on its customer portal, then deposit Birr at a CBE branch into the account it gives, or pay in USD by PayPal. telebirr isn't listed for hosting.
- Yegara: Dashen, CBE or United Bank, by mobile or internet banking or a cash deposit.
- HahuCloud: CBE, Bank of Abyssinia or Dashen.
- Techno Bros: telebirr, card, or cash or cheque at its Addis Ababa office.
- EthioDeploy: telebirr transfer, checked automatically against the transaction number; or an international card in USD.
Questions
ethio telecom's Shared Bronze plan at ETB 650 a year (November 2026): 5 GB of storage, 50 GB of bandwidth, one site, one MySQL database and five mailboxes, with a free domain for the first year. It suits a WordPress or company site, not a Node.js or Python app.
ethio telecom's VPS Silver (2 GB RAM, 30 GB) is ETB 6,400 a year. Local resellers charge by the month: Yegara from ETB 1,950, HahuCloud 3,174 and Zergaw ETB 3,272 for 1 vCPU plans, as of November 2026. Yegara's and HahuCloud's servers are abroad.
ETB 1,375 a year for a first-level .et domain and ETB 550 a year for .com.et, .org.et and similar, bought from ethio telecom. Paying for two or more years at once is 5% to 10% cheaper.
Some providers take it. EthioDeploy takes telebirr transfers for its paid plans, and Techno Bros lists telebirr. ethio telecom's hosting is paid by CBE deposit or PayPal, and Yegara and HahuCloud list bank transfers.
Only if the server is actually in Ethiopia. Several local resellers run their servers in the US or Europe, so check the server location on the plan page. ethio telecom and Zergaw host locally.
